  • Am I a Mac or a PC? I just don't know anymore.

**Those of you who are passionate about Macs or PC's, this is your time to convert me. I am on the fence, impartial to one or the other. Tell me what I want and what I need and pull me to your side!!**

suzy and I own a macbook. we bought it while living in Big Sky, Montana in 2007. Why did we invest in this laptop, you may ask? Well. Suzy's compaq laptop from college had recently crashed and we had lost everything. I had my college laptop- an ancient sony vaio which had slowly broken down into a vegetable-type state... and essentially there was no way to get information off of the computer except to e-mail things while connected to the internet.

we decided it was time to see if apple could better meet our needs. so WHY did we go with a Mac? Upon our most recent crash of our Macbook, here are my recollections:

Mac's don't really get viruses or bugs that mess up the computer

Mac's are sleek, hip-looking, and just plain pretty

Customer service is supposed to be great

Mac's are reliable computers and don't crash on you every 3 years like Dell laptops are known to do

So we bought our laptop. Since the summer of 2007 our Macbook has crashed and we have had to start from scratch 3 TIMES now. The first time was a malfunctioning harddrive-- apparently common in the model we got??!! The second time we still don't know what caused it, but both the second and third times have required us to get brand new harddrives.

Which brings me to my main point. Why did we buy a mac? It has NOT been reliable. It has caused us more frustration and loss than either of our previous laptop experiences. And I begin to wonder why I was so quick to leave the PC world.

I am looking for discussion and input. We did repair our laptop and it is supposed to arrive via FedEx today... but I am seriously considering buying a desktop. I feel our luck with laptops will likely forever be poor, so we want a desktop as our main 'computer,' and the laptop for internet browsing and music.

Should I buy a PC or an iMac? Convince me.

Our primary computer uses: Picture storage, internet browsing, watching tv shows on hulu, itunes listening, and occasional word processing.

Our wants/needs: A nice big screen (20" or bigger), enough storage space for the amount of music and pictures we have/take, a small 'computer' that doesn't take up a lot of space on or under the desk, and is affordable*

*for the iMac, I know I won't be able to find one cheaper than $1199, so this is a good place for pc people to show me something at like half the cost and just as quality or better...

    sick.

I usually don't get sick very often... but it does happen from time to time.

I am currently lying in bed: sick.

Friday night I got a little lightheaded. I felt a bit funny. But i thought nothing of it. that sort of thing happens.

Saturday morning we slept in and i made blueberry pancakes for us for breakfast. shortly thereafter i started feeling not good. i had no energy. i felt weak and my body temperature just seemed 'off.'

    i was sick.

I pretty much relaxed and rested for the remainder of saturday... with a couple slight exceptions- but for the most part I was good.

On Sunday we went to church. I awoke, feeling ok, but still quite sure I was under the weather. We went to a potluck after church. I was social. I stood and had conversatins with people. I helped set up tables and bring out food. I ate food-- a whole plate of varied delicious potluck foods.

we went home and did some odd jobs around the house- i half rested, half worked. I ate half a burger and half a totinos pizza for supper. and i had some wine. later we went to the creamery and I had 3 large scoops of delightful ice cream. I also took home a hand-packed pint of ice cream for free, since I've tried mre than 25 different flavors to date. I ate some of that pint that night.

That night I woke up at 2:15ish and was shivering-- colder than I've ever felt. And it was a hot night. I went back and forth between extreme hot and extreme cold and lay awake from 2:45 until 4:45. I realized i had not been taking this whole sick thing very seriously. my temperature read 101.8

on monday I plopped onto our bed at 9:10am and woke to suzy calling me at 4:45. I then slept for another half hour. Somehow I still haven't beat this fever. so here i lay in bed.

the moral of the story is: don't underestimate the power of sickness. if you pretend you're not sick and keep acting normal, you'll make it worse and prolong the whole thing. believe me: i did it.

    moving.

today was spent hanging things on walls, unpacking the last few boxes, and getting settled into the new place.

we also went shopping... as always seems to accompany a move.

but we had Thai food for dinner, too... which kind of makes everything all good.

here's a little teaser of what a tiny section of our new place looks like:

and in case anyone is curious or confused: we still live in Ithaca, we just moved 2.3 miles down the road to a bigger and cheaper place to live.
